Probably the only genuine Tapas bar in Vietnam. La Salsa is like
walking straight back into Spain. The jugs of sangria,
Latino-style music and loyal, fun-loving European and Spanish
clientele doesn't help nostalgic yearnings. The dazzling colours
and spirit of Spain are kept alive next to St. Joseph's Cathedral,
on atmospheric Nha Tho street, French-managed, there's a fair bit
of influence from France on the a la carte menu.
Try the duck leg
confit (VND95,000), or the wonderful traditional southern French
cassoulet of duck, sausage and beans (VND125,000). But the
manager's Spanish grandmother has contributed to some of the
authentic Spanish recipes, including the fabulous paella, cooked
with clams and saffron in traditional paella pans (VND110,000).
The A La Plancha menu (marinated meats cooked on a special grill),
features Australian beef tenderloin (VND195,000), complimented
with a choice of flavoursome sauces. From the board, look out for
daily specials (under VND100,000), or weekly specials, which can
feature free-range quail, seafood, rabbit or special rib of beef.
At the bar, enjoy a delicious range of Tapas (VND10,000 -
100,000), including Chorizo (spicy Spanish sausage), marinated
zucchini, or Serrano ham. All produce is of the highest quality,
mostly imported. Head upstairs to the stylishly decorated,
intimate dining area. The balcony, overlooking the cathedral and
leafy streets, resembles dining on a balmy night in Spain. Booke
ahead, because everyone else thinks so too. Delivery and catering
available, including paella parties (minimum 20 people).
